Skokie School District 73-5 students suspended 32 times in a single school year

Skokie School District 73-5 reported 32 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 32 students during the year. That equates to 3 percent of the 1,079 students enrolled.

Of the 10 in-school suspensions, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for violence without physical injury. The category includes four incidents. There were three incidents of unspecified reasons. For eight incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 22 out-of-school suspensions, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes nine incidents. There were five incidents of violence that caused physical injury. For 11 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
