Evanston Township High School District 202 students suspended, expelled 712 times in a single school year

Evanston Township High School District 202 reported two expulsions and 710 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

The district transferred 450 students to another program instead of suspending or expelling them.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 712 students during the year. That equates to 21.4 percent of the 3,329 students enrolled.

Students were expelled for one incident with drugs and one incident with unspecified reasons.

Of the 600 in-school suspensions, 431 were given to boys and 169 were given to girls, all of whom were high schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 482 incidents. There were 58 incidents of drugs. For 498 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 110 out-of-school suspensions, 70 were given to boys and 40 were given to girls, all of whom were high schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 66 incidents. There were 18 incidents of drugs. For 70 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
