River Trails School District 26 students suspended 80 times in a single school year

River Trails School District 26 reported 80 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 80 students during the year. That equates to 5.2 percent of the 1,524 students enrolled.

Of the 71 in-school suspensions, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 56 incidents. There were eight incidents of violence that caused physical injury. For 68 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes three incidents. There were two incidents of violence that caused physical injury. For six incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
