Jillian Rose Bernas sums up last year’s 32 percent permanent income tax hike as part of the new state budget as a disaster.
The results are in,” Bernas posted on Facebook. “The average household paid $732 more this year to the state. They said the money would go to balance the budget, yet the fiscal year ended in a $590 million deficit. While job growth is half the national average, we saw another year of population decline and our credit rating is the worst in the nation.”
Bernas, who is running against incumbent Rep. Michelle Mussman (D-Schaumburg) for the 56th District, said the job performance of elected officials should be based on the results they produce for their constituents.
“It is clear the tax hike did not solve our state’s problems,” she wrote. “We were promised reforms, but lawmakers just took more money out of our paychecks. The results are in and they have failed. Now we need to vote in new representation.”
