Republican candidate Barrett Davie doesn’t see how he can lose in his run against Sen. Julie Morrison (D-Deerfield) if the election comes to be about pocketbook issues.

“Every resident of Illinois would have to cut a check for $50,800 to pay our public debt,” Davie wrote on Facebook. “After six years in Springfield, Senator Julie Morrison still doesn't have a plan to move Illinois forward.”

Davie’s figures come courtesy of a Truth in Accounting analysis that found the state is facing a $216.1 billion budget shortfall, which earned it an ”F" for fiscal health from the non-profit group.

In another post, Davie told voters why he believes Morrison continues to have some of the support that she has.

“Big public unions just gave $7,000 to Senator Morrison's campaign,” he said. “She's dependent on them, we're counting on you.”

Davie also mentioned he plans to attend the Lake Forest Days Parade on Aug. 1.

“Our campaign office is along the parade route, so meet there to grab a [T-shirt], meet the rest of the team and grab some breakfast,” he wrote on Facebook. “Bring the family, bring a friend and bring the dog. All are welcome.”
