In July, our community not only enjoys a healthy round-up of outdoor movies, days soaking up the sun at Glencoe Beach and excursions to the Chicago Botanic Garden – we also get to start the month off right with the most iconic day of the year in Glencoe – the 4th of July! We hope you enjoy celebrating Independence Day with friends, family and neighbors! Here’s your July run-down of events to help you Explore, Enjoy & Celebrate Glencoe:
Friday & Saturday, June 29-30: Glencoe Sidewalk Sale
9 a.m.-5 p.m., Downtown Glencoe
Browse and buy quality merchandise at great prices offered by Glencoe's own stores and additional vendors, lining the sidewalks on Park and Vernon Avenues.
Friday & Saturday, June 29-30: Glencoe Ballroom Open House
9 a.m.-6 p.m., 660 Vernon Avenue
Stop by Glencoe’s new ballroom dance studio for complimentary group dance classes, live performances by professional instructors and more!
Friday, June 29 - Sunday, July 1: Chicago Botanic Garden Art Festival
10 a.m.- 5 p.m., The Esplanade at the Chicago Botanic Garden (1000 Lake Cook Road)
Stop by the Chicago Botanic Garden Art Festival to see the work of 95 unique artists in a beautiful setting. All of the artwork embodies a botanic theme, use or material.
Wednesday, July 4: Fourth of July Celebration
All Day, Various Glencoe Locations
The Fourth of July is a great time to get together with family, friends and neighbors. Community members of all ages can take part in a full day of festivities sponsored by the Glencoe Park District, Glencoe Rotary Club and Village of Glencoe.
Friday, July 6: Tots-N-Tunes – Little Miss Ann
10-10:45 a.m., Wyman Green
Catch the award-winning, kid-favorite musician Little Miss Ann here in Glencoe! Sponsored by the Friends of the Glencoe Public Library, this free family event will be moved indoors in case of inclement weather.
Saturday, July 7: Cardboard Regatta
4-5 p.m., Glencoe Beach
Turn paper into a seaworthy vessel! Build a cardboard boat at home and bring it to Glencoe Beach to race against other boats! We will have supplies available for late additions and repairs. Awards will be presented for speed and team spirit. Teams of two or more must have at least two people sail in the boat. Must register by July 1 to participate; limited day of registration may be accepted.
Tuesday, July 10: Music on the Esplanade – Rio Bamba
6- 8 p.m., Chicago Botanic Garden (1000 Lake Cook Road)
Groove to the exciting Brazilian, Latin and American jazz music of the Rio Bamba band as you watch the sun set over the Chicago Botanic Garden’s Smith Fountain! Bring your chairs and blankets for this lively free event.
Friday, July 13 : Movies on the Green – The Sandlot
Dusk, Wyman Green
Grab your blankets and lawn chairs for this family favorite event! Enjoy a free showing of the classic baseball film The Sandlot under the stars. Showing will be moved inside Village Hall in case of inclement weather.
Thursday, July 19 : Vibrant Senior Living Discussion Group
1-2:30 p.m., Glencoe Public Library (320 Park Avenue)
Join Family Service of Glencoe for a lively conversation and study on relevant topics in this important season of life. Topics are chosen by participants and are facilitated by staff counselor Joan Merlo. New attendees are welcome.
Thursday, July 19 - August 3: New Tier Township Summer Children's Book Drive
Help the Village of Glencoe, New Trier Township and the Winnetka Presbyterian Church collect 3,000 children's books this summer for Bernie's Book Bank! Bernie's Book Bank is a Lake Bluff-based non-profit organization that gathers gently-used books for at-risk children in the Chicago area. Drop off your books at Village Hall Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Saturday, July 21: Meet the Machines
9-11:30 a.m., Downtown Glencoe
See, touch and explore a variety of trucks and vehicles operated by the Glencoe Park District and the Village's Public Works and Public Safety Departments. Get up close to a firetruck, tractor, police car, ambulance and dump truck. Vehicles are subject to availability. Event will be held rain or shine.
Saturday & Sunday, July 28-29: Glencoe Festival of Art
10 a.m.-5 p.m., Downtown Glencoe
This outdoor festival—with live music, food and activities for all ages—spotlights artwork from more than 130 artists from across the world. Artists features ceramics, glass, jewelry, metal, painting, photography and more.
Glencoe Community Garden Summer Harvest and Compost Hours
Glencoe Community Garden (385 Old Green Bay Road)
Help sustain our community’s organic-practicing mini farm and compost collaborative by dropping off your compost or volunteering during the Glencoe Community Garden’s summer hours! Stop by Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 7:30 - 9 a.m. and Saturday mornings from 10 a.m.-Noon. 100% of the Garden is built, harvested and managed by volunteers.
