Lake View property owners have scheduled a public meeting on Thursday to protest property tax increases reported to be as high as 70 percent for some residents.
Organized by the community group Lakeview United, the event will take place at the Hawthorne Academy Auditorium, commencing at 6:30 p.m.
“Owners were hit with outrageous double digit increases with an average 32 percent and many at 50 percent, 70 percent higher,” organizers said in a flyer.

Scheduled speakers include Tom Shaer, from the Assessors Office; Andrea Ralla, a 30-year property tax expert and president of TRAEN Inc.; and state Rep. Sara Feigenholtz (D-Chicago) of the 12th District.
In addition to taxes, other subjects scheduled for discussion include the question of how can Cook County transition to a fairer tax system and how can the county legislate a cap on tax increases.
