Republican state House candidate Amanda Biela has a simple explanation for why she argues the “Madigan Machine” must be stopped in Springfield.

“The depraved culture of Madigan's Springfield must change,” she told the North Cook News. “It's not about party politics (I'd say the same thing if it were Republicans engaging in such egregious behavior). It's about getting rid of sleazy politicians and doing what's right.”

The latest blemish on House Speaker Mike Madigan’s (D-Chicago) more than four-decade run as House speaker comes courtesy of his longtime chief of staff, Tim Mapes, who was forced to step down after being hit with harassment and bullying charges by fellow staffer Sherri Garrett.

Mapes is now the fourth high-ranking member of Madigan’s operation to face similar allegations since the #MeToo movement hit Springfield four months ago.

"Our elected officials should be held to a higher standard of decency than the general public,” added Biela, who is running against Democratic incumbent Rep. John C. D’Amico (D-Chicago) in the 15th House District.  “We elect them to serve on behalf and for our best interests. They are throwing the people's trust out the window when they engage in or cover up inappropriate actions. The only remedy for such corruption is to elect new folks who will serve with honesty and integrity."

Biela previously went on record with her assertion that she feels that career politicians like Madigan are a major reason for all the problems emanating from Springfield.

“Incumbency is a direct assault on democracy,” she said in a recent video posted on Facebook. “Ever heard of Mike Madigan? He’s been in office over 40 years. That’s longer than I’ve been alive. My opponent is in his seventh term. No more career politicians.”

The 15th District includes parts of Niles, Morton Grove and Glenview as well as portions of Des Plaines and Chicago's North Side.
