Northfield Township High School District 225 issued the following announcement on May 23.

The Glenbrook High School District 225 Board of Education approved a new five-year collective bargaining agreement with the Glenbrook Education Association (GEA).

“The Board and Association both believe that the agreement is fair to all stakeholders,” said Board President Skip Shein. “It is important to balance our need to attract and retain quality teachers with our ongoing efforts to remain fiscally responsible, and this contract accomplishes both.”

The new five-year agreement features a unified salary schedule that brings greater equity to teacher compensation. The overall average salary increase for teachers is 3.77 percent for each of the first two years and an average of 3.67 percent in each of the remaining three years of the contract.

Within the agreement, significant strides were made in health benefits including a collaborative risk-sharing strategy designed to decrease the overall cost of health benefits expected by the district while providing premium reduction incentives for employees.

“We were pleased to continue the decades long tradition of dialogue and collaboration that makes this District special,” said GEA President Matt Whipple. “We believe the agreement will allow us to maintain and enrich the excellence of our shared community.”

The new five-year agreement will take effect on July 1, 2018 and expire on June 30, 2023.

There are approximately 462 full and part-time employees represented by the GEA. The district employs a total of 852 certified and non-certified professionals including teachers, service professionals, paraprofessionals, support staff, and administrators.
