The Illinois Rifle Association (IRA) is preparing to go head to head with the village of Northbrook, rallying residents to oppose an upcoming village board vote to ban some firearm accessories.
In a recent "action alert" sent by the IRA, the group encouraged residents to band together in opposition to a proposed ordinance up for a vote at a Northbrook Village Board meeting.
"The Village of Northbrook is feeling left out, outdone by neighboring towns of Highland Park and Deerfield, so now it's 'their turn' to come up with local infringements on the rights of gun owners that tempt future litigation," the IRA statement reads.
In its action alert, the IRA pointed to the board's concealed carry ordinances and said the board planned to overrule the state by banning CCW in establishments where alcohol is served, regardless of the establishment's percentage of income from alcoholic beverages.
The IRA also challenged the board's agenda items, which include discussion of a semiautomatic weapon ban in Cook County and banning the sale and possession of certain firearm accessories, a move the IRA said is "in conflict with state law."
