This week, Rep. David Harris (R-Arlington Heights) noted environmental-related news as a positive Illinois attribute.
At the Tuesday House floor debate, Harris began by noting the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) designation to Illinois.
“It is one of the most popular green certification programs used worldwide,” Harris said of the entity developed by the nonprofit U.S. Green Building Council.

Harris said LEED -- which includes a set of rating systems for the design, construction, operation and maintenance for green buildings, homes and neighborhoods -- helps communities become more environmentally efficient and resourceful.
“I am very happy to tell you that Illinois is No. 1 among the 50 states in the construction of LEED-certified buildings that are overall better for the environment,” Harris said.
