City of Park Ridge Historic Preservation Commission met April 4.

Here is the minutes provided by the Commission:

Chair Barclay called the meeting to order at 6:00 pm.

A. Roll Call

B. Approval of Minutes - March 7, 2018

On a motion by Commissioner Mattingly seconded by Commissioner Tiu, the Commission agreed to approve the minutes from the March 7, 2018 meeting, as submitted.

This motion was unanimously approved by voice vote.

C. Citizens Wishing to be Heard on Non-Agenda Items – none

D. Designation Review Cases - none

E. Other Items - Discussion Items

1. Discussion Items

i. Poster Contest

Commissioner Tiu stated that all poster contest documents had been delivered to all District 64 schools as well as private schools. The Commissioners were hopeful for a good response. The due date for the contest will be May 1, 2018, and the winners will be acknowledged by the City Council later in May.

i. Berry Parkway Gates

Mr. Branham stated he would prepare the item for Committee as a Whole meeting scheduled for April 23, 2018 to gain consensus from the City

Council to move forward with the landmark application.

ii, Farewell - Commissioner Adlaf

The Commissioners and Alderman Joyce expressed their appreciation and admiration for Commissioner Adlaf, who will be leaving his seat on the Commission after eight plus years to focus his attention at the History Center, Commissioner Adlaf stated his pleasure serving the Commission.

F. New Business

Commissioner Mackin expressed the need for additional Historic Preservation Commission exposure. He suggested the possibility of displaying a photo gallery of the 100-year-old homes at the Library or City Hall. He added possibly adding a link on the city website for older home photos.

Commissioner Costanza expressed his interest in the gas street lamps. He felt that they are a symbol of Park Ridge. Mr. Branham noted the Uptown Plan has specific language regarding street lighting details. Alderman Joyce stated they were streetscape improvements planned for this summer along Northwest Highway.

Commissioner Tiu presented a student newspaper feature article, which looked back at the history of Maine South High School.

G. Adjournment

On a motion by Commissioner Mattingly, seconded by Commissioner Bollinger, the Commission agreed to adjourn the meeting.

This motion was unanimously approved by voice vote.

The meeting adjourned at 6:30 pm.
