Rep. David Harris (R-Arlington Heights) continues to have something good to say.
For weeks, Harris has been using his point of personal privilege to note what is good about Illinois, and he continued his string of making positive comments during House floor debate on March 6.
“I would like today to recognize the 43,000 soybean farmers in the state of Illinois and the importance of soybean exports,” Harris said after noting the recent federal discussions regarding trade wars.
Rep. David Harris points out something positive about the state during House floor debate March 6.
Illinois farmers produced 611 million bushels of soybeans on 10.5 acres, Harris said, with an average yield of 58 bushels per acre.
“Illinois led the nation in all three categories,” Harris said. “Iowa came in second, and they weren’t even close – they were 50 million bushels behind us.”
He added that Illinois continues to top the nation in soybean production.
“As a matter of fact, (Illinois) has claimed this title for four out of the last five years,” Harris said. “If Illinois were a separate country, it would rank as the fourth largest soybean country in the world after the United States, Brazil and Argentina.”
