Jeremy Wynes, a Highland Park Republican running in the GOP primary in the 10th Congressional District for the seat held by Rep. Brad Schneider (D-IL), has some impressive bona fides in terms of endorsements from newspapers.
In a recent post on his campaign page, Wynes said he has garnered the endorsement of the Chicago Tribune. “The north suburban 10th Congressional District has toggled between red and blue in the last four elections,” Tribune editors wrote. “Wynes is the type of fiscally conservative, socially moderate candidate the 10th District favors.”
Wynes said he has also been endorsed by the Chicago Sun-Times and the Daily Herald.
Daily Herald editors called Wynes a candidate that “best fits the profile” of “desired candidates who are socially moderate, fiscally conservative, and not glued to the party line…”
The Sun-Times sees Wynes as competitive for the district.
“He is the kind of fiscally conservative but socially moderate Republican who has fared well in the district before,” Sun-Times editors said in their endorsement, noting that Wynes has suggested that Schneider “poses as a thoughtfully independent Democrat” but still hews to the party line on most votes.
“Thank you for your support,” Wynes wrote recently. “We have been working hard to bring our message to the voters to let them know the issues at stake – we've been knocking on doors and making phone calls for months.”
Wynes’ platform reportedly includes financial reform, efforts toward economic growth, strong national security policy, lower taxes on families within the state and fewer regulations on small businesses.
