Katie Miller said politics is not nearly as important as the season of giving.
“Christmas time is a time of year to be with your family and friends, and it is important to take a break from politics and bring into prospective what is important in life,” Miller, who is seeking the 53rd District seat, told the North Cook News. “It helps remind you of why you are running and what you are fighting for.”
The Republican seeking the 53rd District seat, which covers Prospect Heights and Mount Prospect, hopes to replace retiring Rep. David Harris (R-Arlington Heights), but in the meanwhile anticipates filling her holidays with family.
“I am planning to spend Christmas with my family,” Miller said. “We have a big family party on Christmas Eve, and close family comes over on Christmas day.”
The long-time nurse, wife and mother said she and loved ones attend church on Christmas day to celebrate Christ’s birth, but before the big day, there is shopping to be done.
“We go to a store and my kids pick out gifts for each other and for my husband and myself,” Miller said of the annual family tradition. “We also drive and look at Christmas lights, and go to my parents’ house and help make cookies.”
True to her Christian beliefs, the candidate said it is better to give then receive.
“I think it is important to give because it reminds us to think of other people,” Miller said. “No one is the center of the world. We all need each other to help to make the world a better place.”
The House hopeful said Christmas is for goodwill towards all men and women.
“We need remember that we are all neighbors to each and need to respect each other,” Miller said. “I enjoy the Christmas season because it is a time to be with family and friends.”
