Patrick Shephen of Bartlett recently won first place in the Congressional App Competition for Illinois District 6, according to a release from Rep. Peter Roskam (R-IL).
Roskam presented Shephen with the award for his app, Student Driver, the release said.
“My app’s purpose is to help student drivers track their driving time automatically,” Shephen said in a video explaining his app. “In order to record a drive session, you simply need to put the phone in your pocket and start driving. Once the app detects that you’ve started driving, it will send a notification telling you. Once you’ve finished your drive session, the app will notify you that it’s recorded the drive session.”

Shephen’s video also noted that users can turn off notifications from the app and can review all of their drive sessions in detail. Shephen was one of 4,000 students from throughout the country who participated in the competition, the release said.
“The Congressional App Challenge ensures that we continue to support our students and provide them an opportunity to acquire the skills needed to qualify for high paying tech jobs and build companies that create more opportunities throughout the tech industry,” Roskam said, according to the release. “I am proud of all students that submitted their apps for the competition and I congratulate our winners.”
