City of Park Ridge Mayor's Advisory Board met Oct. 5.

Here is the agenda provided by the Board:

I. Call to order Chairman Mazzuca called the meeting to order at 6:15 p.m.

II. Roll Call Chairman Mazzuca, Ald. Melidosian and Ald. Wilkening were present. Ald. Moran was absent.

Deputy Clerk Peterson recorded the minutes.

III. Approval of Minutes A. Approve the minutes of the August 14, 2017 Mayor’s Advisory Board meeting Moved by Ald. Mazzuca. Seconded by Ald. Wilkening. Motion carried; voice vote.

IV. Interviews Chairman Mazzuca explained the interview process to each candidate at the beginning of their interview including the need for a non-fingerprint background check if the Mayor accepts the Board’s recommendation for their appointment. Each candidate was given 2-3 minutes to introduce themselves and share information about why they should be appointed.

Eileen A. Manning - Community Health Commission; reappointment for three-year term

Ms. Manning is a registered nurse specializing in geriatrics. She is a 47-year resident of the community. She is interested in seeing progress continue in the City. She was a part of the Community Health Commission when it was struggling to move ahead; she was excited to learn the commission would be given a chance to revitalize. She welcomes the changes and believes it commission is under good leadership and has great members who work cohesively. She also serves on the Farmers Market committee and has promoted the Community Heath Commission at the market. On October 11 the Community Health Commission will be presenting a GRC2 program at an upcoming City Council Meeting. She has and interest Metropolitan Mayor Caucus GRC2 Resolution which focuses on sustainability in communities. Ald. Wilkening questioned Ms. Manning about the commission’s direction to educate the community of this issue.

Kathleen Sheffert - Youth Services Commission; new student commissioner appointment; two- year term

Kathleen has a sister who serves on the Youth Commission. She has heard about the fun activities which she would like to participate. She is a freshman in High School and has had numerous volunteer opportunities at her church, St. Paul of the Cross and the Library. She would like to see Movies in the Park continue. Ald. Mazzuca stressed the importance about attendance and maintaining at least 75% of the meetings. Kathleen understood the commitment.

Joseph Nykoluk – Community Health Commission; new appointment; three-year term

Joseph is an Emergency Room nurse who works at Christ Hospital. He had lived in Park Ridge since 2003, attended Maine South High School, Oakton College, went away for a few years continuing his education, returned to Park Ridge and attended UIC earning his Bachelor of Nursing Sciences. He also serves on the IL National Guard. Since he will has become a permanent member of the community, he would like to serve in the capacity as a volunteer and give back. He did not have any conflicts in his schedule attending meetings. Although he has not attended any meetings, he reviewed the agendas and minutes of the commission. He was interested in providing assistance to disabled veterans. The dangers of vaping was discussed briefly.

V. Deliberations/Recommendations The Board found all three candidates worthy of appointment. The following motions were brought forward:

Move to approve the recommendation of Eileen A. Manning to the Community Health Commission for reappointment of a 3 year term and Joseph Nykoluk to the Community Health Commission, new appointment for a three-year term Moved by Ald. Mazzuca. Seconded by Ald. Wilkening. Motion carried; voice vote.

Move to approve the recommendation of Kathleen Sheffert to the Youth Services Commission as a student commissioner for a two-year term Moved by Ald. Mazzuca. Seconded by Ald. Wilkening. Motion carried; voice vote.

VI. Adjournment The meeting adjourned at 6:47 p.m.
