Palatine Rural FPD responds to 23 fires in 2016

Palatine Rural Fire Protection District responded to 105 calls in 2016, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System obtained by the North Cook News.

The calls in Palatine Rural included 23 fires - 18 structure fires, one vehicle fire and two other fires. The fire department also responded to two calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $179,515 in fire loss - or about $7,805 per fire.

The department also received 82 false calls, including one malicious call and 81 other false calls.

The Palatine Rural FPD Firefighters' Pension Fund, which has 21 active employees and 12 retired or inactive employees, was $145,767 in debt as of December 2015, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $6,338 for every fire in 2016.
