The calls in Niles included 54 fires - 24 structure fires, five vehicle fires and 16 other fires. The fire department also responded to nine calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.
In all, the department saw $1,170,523 in fire loss - or about $21,676 per fire.
The department also received 670 false calls, including 22 malicious calls and 648 other false calls.
The calls resulted in seven civilian fire-related injuries. Additionally, two fire service members were injured in fire-related incidents.
The Niles Firefighters' Pension Fund, which has 49 active employees and 62 retired or inactive employees, was $3,448,280 in debt as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $63,857 for every fire in 2016.
