The EDGE program is meant to provide local economic development boosts through job creation, growth and competitiveness. The recent changes are supposed to encourage expansion to underserved areas and lower eligibility thresholds so that more businesses may take part, according to the release.
The changes also include a transparency measure that requires all of the program's agreements to be posted for the public within 10 days of being secured.
The law extends the program until June 30, 2022.
“This legislation is another tool to use in our quest to bring high-quality and good-paying jobs to Illinois," Rauner said, according to the release. "It is crucial for the future success of our state that we make Illinois a more business friendly environment through pro-growth measures."
