Lake Park Golf Course wants other courses to turn green with envy.
The Des Plaines course is open to players as young as 4 and hosts a number of programs for new and experienced golfers. Only 1,515 yards long, it features a full 18-hole course with holes ranging from 50 to 115 yards.
It also offers experienced golfers the opportunity to work on their short game before trying out more competitive courses elsewhere. Lake Park is also still somewhat challenging, with well-placed bunkers and a lake that doubles as a water hazard. It has been a local favorite for more than 50 years.
Lake Park sponsors Sticks for Kids, a program backed by the Golf Course Builders Association of America (GCBAA) that offers children 10 sets of junior-size golf clubs. The course also offers lessons, after-school activities and sports camps, and hosts community events.
Lake Park opens in April and remains open as long as weather permits. It even maintains daily updates and announcements about weather conditions and availability at its clubhouse.
Golfers can reserve tee times up to one week out and at least one hour before playing. They are also encouraged to cancel up to two hours before a scheduled tee time to avoid being charged.
