Lifeguard-training course planned in Des Plaines

The Des Plaines Park District will have lifeguard training in June and July, according to the Park District website.

Classes will take place June 5-9, and July 6-8 at various times and locations. Participants must be at least 16 years old at the start of the course, do legs-only treading of water for a minute, swim without stopping for 100 yards, and pull a 10-pound brick off the bottom of the pool at a depth of 12 feet. Maximum number of participants per class is 15.

Costs are $25 for returning lifeguards and $50 for new participants. Class completion is not a guarantee of employment.
