The Illinois Republican Party recently released a series of robocalls targeting North Cook representatives.
The seven lawmakers -- all Democrats -- voted for Mike Madigan (D-Chicago) in the re-election bid for his 17th term as speaker of the House.
"House Democrats have a terrible and deceptive habit of following Boss Madigan’s orders in Springfield and pocketing his campaign cash while faking 'independence' to their constituents," GOP spokesman Steven Yaffe said in a news release. "The Illinois Republican Party is committed to making sure that voters know their representatives sold them out yesterday."
Robocalls were sent out regarding state Reps. Fred Crespo (D-Hoffman Estates), Laura Fine (D-Glenview), Anna Moeller (D-Elgin), Marty Moylan (D-Des Plaines), Michelle Mussman (D-Schaumburg), Elaine Nekritz (D-Northbrook) and Carol Sente (D-Vernon Hills).
Each representative was individually targeted by the voice of "Chris," who accused the lawmakers of betraying the people of the district by voting for Madigan. The lawmakers' names were also added to the GOP website BossMadigan.com, which puts a spotlight on the alleged links between Madigan, House Democrats and contributors to their campaigns.
Only one Democrat refused to vote for Madigan: Rep. Scott Drury (D-Highwood) voted present as Madigan retook the speaker's seat in a 66-51 vote last week.
