“Time for Mussman and Fine to stop empowering Madigan at our expense” is the message that Illinois Republicans want to drive home with the recent addition of two more names to their list at BossMadigan.com.   Each time House Speaker Mike Madigan's (D-Chicago) name came up for re-election, state Reps. Michelle Mussman (D-Schaumburg) and Laura Fine (D-Glenview) voted for Madigan. This, in the GOP’s eyes, has earned the duo the distinction of shouldering part of the blame for resulting fallout among constituents at home.

“Mike Madigan has run Illinois as a political boss for over three decades,” Illinois Republican Party spokesman Steven Yaffe said. “Madigan’s only motivation is to increase his own political power at our expense. The middle class, the voters and honest, transparent government fall by the wayside in Madigan’s Illinois.”

Republicans termed Mussman as among Madigan’s most loyal allies, obligingly casting her votes for his unbalanced budget and continued assurance of her own paycheck. Fine, who also voted for Madigan’s agendas, received thousands of dollars in campaign contributions from Madigan.

Both lawmakers would do well to demonstrate independence, the website said.

“By repeatedly voting for Madigan for speaker, empowering Madigan instead of standing up to him … Laura Fine and Michelle Mussman bear responsibility for how far Illinois has fallen,” the GOP website said. “It’s not too late for them to do the right thing and pledge to oppose Madigan for speaker this time.”
