State Sen. Laura Murphy (D-Des Plaines) received the second-lowest rating on the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) scorecard recently.
Murphy received a 20 percent rating on her voting record.
"The NFIB voting record provides a critically important evaluation of a legislator's attitude toward small business based on floor votes," the NFIB website said. "While most elected officials claim to support small business, the NFIB record gives business owners and other citizens a picture of what your state representatives and state senators are up to in Springfield."

Murphy's opponent for the 28th District Senate seat, Republican candidate Mel Thillens, received NFIB and Illinois Chamber of Commerce endorsements. Thillens is vice president of the family-owned Thillens Inc., an armored-car rental company that employs 130 people across several locations in Illinois and in Madison, Wisconsin.
Thillens is running on a platform focused on reforms, including changes to encourage business growth in Illinois. Thillens has called for workers' compensation, tort and business-regulation reforms to reduce barriers to business creation and facilitate a business-friendly climate.
"We deserve legislators who will promote and protect small businesses in Illinois," Thillens said. "We can't grow our economy and create jobs with the anti-business policies of Senator Murphy."
