Streamwood Board of Trustees plan 2017 goals, objectives

Village of Streamwood Board of Trustees met Thursday, Sept. 22.

The Streamwood Village Board includes the village president and six trustees. They are charged with making policy decisions regarding annexation, taxes, budgets, contracts, citizens’ and others’ concerns, development improvements, establishing and maintaining codes, and the establishment of license fees and other charges.

MINUTES OF THE BOARD WORKSHOP

HELD ON THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 22, 2016

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES – 2017

CALL TO ORDER

President Roth called the Workshop to order at 6:33 p.m.

All those answering “present” were physically present at the meeting.

Also present: Village Manager Sharon Caddigan; Village Clerk Kittie Kopitke; Village Attorney Tom Bastian; Community Development Director John Peterson, Finance Director Josh Peacock,  Senior Accountant Lori Frankenthor and IT Coordinator Victor Ambroziak; Fire Chief Chris Clark and Deputy Chief Marv Kramer; HR Coordinator Karen Gray; Police Chief Ed Valente and Deputy Chief Daryl Syre; Public Works Director Matt Mann. ESC Facilitators: Bob McDonald, Craig Williams, David Gugel, Bill Kesler and Mike Thompson.

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

The Village Board is meeting for a workshop with staff to discuss the 2016 Goals and Objectives  and plan for the 2017 Goals and Objectives.

ESC Facilitator Bob McDonald reviewed generally the interview results from the Board and Staff meetings.

ESC Facilitator Mike Thompson discussed staffing depth and succession planning concerns, as  well as compensation review and employee retention to build future “bench strength” in departments. Mr. Thompson stated the Board and staff may look to update the Comprehensive

Plan, or at least portions of the Plan. He noted development challenges, i.e., available space and Cook County tax structure. He also discussed potential for assistance for small business and derelict residential property. Mr. Thompson noted great improvement in the past year with intergovernmental relationships, particularly with Hanover Township and Streamwood Park District, and that these relationships should continue to build.

ESC Facilitator Craig Williams generally reviewed the discussions held with local business owners and significant commercial property owners within the Village.

The Board and staff took a short recess from 7:08 to 7:32 p.m.

ESC Facilitator Dave Gugel provided a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and

Threats) analysis and review.

ESC Facilitator Bill Kesler reviewed strategic issues for the Village generally. He also reviewed the proposed 2017 Goals and Objectives, both ongoing and new focus. These goals will be formally adopted by the Village Board later this year.

PUBLIC COMMENT

ADJOURN

Trustee Baumer moved to adjourn the Workshop. Trustee Carlson seconded the motion. A voice vote approved the adjournment. The Board and Staff adjourned the Workshop at 8:36 p.m.
