Former Oakton Community College student Alisa Kano was part of the Team USA rhythmic-gymnastics team that competed at the Summer Olympics in Rio.
According to the Chicago Tribune, the five-woman team scored 30.224 points, which was last in Saturday's qualifying round.
Russia won the gold medal with a score of 36.233. Spain earned the silver medal with 35.766 points, and Bulgaria claimed the bronze medal with 35.755 points.
Kano was born in Tokyo and lived in New York until she was 17, when she moved to Glencoe to train at North Shore Rhythmic Gymnastics Center. She had been taking classes at Oakton since 2013. Kano recently told the North Cook News that she will be attending Loyola University in Chicago beginning this fall.
The U.S. rhythmic-gymnastics team was the first American team to qualify for the Olympics in 20 years.
