Former Florida Gators quarterback Tim Tebow, who played in the National Football League with the Denver Broncos and New York Jets, has decided to abandon his attempts to revive his football career and try baseball instead.

One local team is willing to forgo the tryout and sign him on the spot.

The Schaumburg Boomers, of the independent Frontier League, have offered Tebow a contract as an outfielder.  Boomers manager Jamie Bennett said on the team's website that the team has been looking for a talented outfielder with leadership skills, and that Tebow can fit that mold. Bennett also said that while Schaumburg may not be a part of the Major League Baseball system, the team's proximity to Chicago means MLB scouts are often in the stadium.

Tebow is not likely to sign the contract, at least not right away, as he has a scheduled tryout for MLB scouts at the end of this month, and all 30 teams have confirmed they are sending scouts to check Tebow out. Tebow wouldn't be likely to accept a contract from a team outside of that system until he has exhausted his options within it. For example, while he was attempting to stay in the NFL as a quarterback, the Arena Football League's Los Angeles Kiss offered him a contract to play quarterback, but he turned it down.
