Nicor now upgrading Wheeling gas lines

Utility company Nicor Gas, serving gas delivery needs for much of the North Cook area, is upgrading service lines throughout the month of July for approximately 300 Wheeling customers whose service lines consist of copper.

Customers throughout the Village of Wheeling already should have received a notice from the utility company informing them of the project. Additionally, Nicor planned to leave door hanger reminders with additional printed information for customers’ convenience.

Crews were expected to perform between 10 and 12 line replacements daily. Customers may notice a short interruption of service during the installation process, lasting no more than one hour; additionally, Nicor will be required to perform a brief interior inspection following the procedure to restore natural gas service.

Nicor has authorized Intren, a utility contractor and construction company based in Union, to execute the installation work. As a courtesy and service to its customers, the company has also contracted with property restoration vendors to repair paving and lawn areas disrupted by the project.

Nicor Gas, serving Illinois’ utility needs with pipeline infrastructure systems for clean, convenient natural gas delivery, recently adopted a new logo to reflect its affiliation with Southern Company -- now ranking as the nation's second largest utility.
