Chris Johnson of Wheeling, a member of the Southern Illinois-Edwardsville wrestling team, has been named to the Southern Conference's academic honor roll for the 2015-16 academic year.
Student-athletes selected for the academic honor roll had at least a 3.3 cumulative grade-point average at the end of the spring semester and competed in at least half of their teams' competitions, according to the college's website.
Johnson, a redshirt senior, went 16-15 with four pinfall wins at heavyweight. He took second place at the Grand View Open to start the season. Another highlight last season for Johnson was a three-match winning streak.
Academic honors are nothing new for Johnson, who was an Illinois State Scholar at Wheeling High School, according to siuecougars.com.
Joining Johnson on the academic honor roll was teammate Jake Tindle, a redshirt junior from Troy, Illinois.
