Township High School District 214 received $552.55 per student from the federal government in 2015, or approximately $6,616,257.64, the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) said.
The $6,616,257.64 equals approximately 2.8 percent of District 214's total budget. The state average for federal funding of public school districts is 8 percent, ISBE said.
The Obama administration is threatening to pull federal funding from local schools that refuse to follow Washington directives. Most recently, it ordered all public schools to allow transgender students to use the bathroom that matches their gender identity.
Chicago Public Schools gets 16 percent of its funding from the federal government, or twice the state average. Chicago property taxpayers pay for only 49 percent of their school bill; District 214 pays for 90.5 percent.
District 214 spent a total of $19,734 per student in 2015.
Among other North Cook school districts, Maine Township HSD 207 ($554.57 per pupil) receives more money from the federal government than District 214. Northfield Township HSD 225 ($396.70 per pupil) receives less.
Northfield Township High School District 225 spends the most money on public schools in North Cook, at $22,039 per pupil.
