The Park Ridge City Council honored firefighter-paramedics Chris Cleary, Aaron Kuester and Bill Smaha at the council's March 7 meeting.
The trio received a Fire Department Commendation and uniform ribbon from Fire Chief Sorensen and Acting Mayor Maloney for their quick action on Jan. 21. Upon arriving on the scene of an emergency childbirth call, they found that the baby had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck. The baby was resuscitated and, due to the emergency responders' fast efforts, is now doing well.
Also recognized was the TOPSoccer's January volunteer, Francesco Bartucci, and a proclamation recognizing the 104 anniversary of Girl Scouts U.S.A. was read.
The council approved the first readings of two ordinances and denied a third. The special use for an assisted living facility at 501 Busse Highway and a health/fitness center at 110 N. Northwest Highway were both approved, while the map amendment to change the zoning at 1200 Elm St. from R-2 Single Family Residential to R-4 Multifamily District was voted down.
The council approved the final readings of the ordinances that changed the parking restrictions on South Seminary, Stewart and Main Street. Also approved was a $20,000 purchase order for training expenses with the University of Illinois.
