Northbrook warns residents of ongoing threat from 'Felony Lane Gang.'
Northbrook Police Chief Charles Wernick issued a statement Thursday cautioning residents to remove valuables from their cars or lock them in the trunk in defense of an ongoing series of break-ins across the Midwest by the so-called "Felony Lane Gang."
Wernick said the burglars typically break car windows while cars are parked at schools, parks, gyms and other facilities, then use stolen checkbooks and IDs to withdraw money from victims' accounts at local banks' drive-through lanes. The burglars typically do their business at the furthest lane from the bank, which is most concealed from security cameras, therefore known as "the felony lane."
Wernick suggested residents not leave valuables in their cars -- even for a short amount of time -- and to call 9-1-1 to report any suspicious activity.
