The Chamber of Commerce and Downtown Merchants Association will give a presentation on the Downtown Redevelopment Principles to the Mount Prospect Committee of the Whole.
The committee meeting will be held at 7 p.m. today, Feb. 23, at the Village Hall, 50 S. Emerson.
The Downtown Redevelopment Principles were recently adopted by both the chamber and the association. Leadership will present the details of the five key principles it has adopted and ask the village to consider them during the downtown redevelopment. These principles include encouraging residential units within downtown districts to provide a customer base and attracting retail businesses, such as restaurants and drinking establishments -- which create foot traffic. Both groups believe the village should take a leadership role in the redevelopment.
The committee will also hold a discussion regarding funding options for the roof replacement on the Reservoir 17 ground-level water storage tank. The suggestions to cover the funding deficit are delaying water main replacement and using Utility Fund reserves. By using the fund reserves for the roof replacement, the water main replacements could continue on schedule. The committee may or may not take action to move this item forward.
