The Village of Wheeling Foreign Fire Tax Board (FFTB) discussed purchase requests at its meeting on Dec. 11.
Under public comments, Joe Cali presented a quote for a base model, minimum stand breathing air compressor. The quote was for $45,000. The board decided to put off further research and bidding.
The board reviewed the purchase requisitions, including a request for assistance with an upgrade to the two new ambulances being purchased by the Wheeling fire department. The upgrade to the ambulance would add a hydraulic lifting mechanism, which raises and lowers the stretcher. This upgrade would reduce employee injuries. The board approved $10,317.78 for two Stryker Power-Pro XT stretchers.
A second purchase request was made for two "Germ Away Ambulance UV Light Air Purifier Sterilizers" for the ambulances. The UV sterilizer systems would kill 99.9 percent of germs in the ambulances. The board approved $2,000 for two installed units.
The requests for the "UV Germicidal Ambulance and Mobile Medical Disinfection Unit" and electronic privacy glass system for the ambulances were voted upon and denied.
The board also discussed inviting a guest speaker to a future meeting and changing the FFTB bylaws. By changing the treasurer's official start date to Jan. 1, a newly elected treasurer would not be responsible for financial reporting and auditing that occurred before taking office.
