Zoning board will hold public hearings on requests for special use permits and zoning variations at tonight's meeting.
The public hearing on the request to allow a new detached two-car garage at 821 Elmwood Ave. will be heard at the Wilmette Zoning Board of Appeals meeting at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow, Jan. 20.
The meeting will be in the Council Chambers at 1200 Wilmette Ave.
The existing garage is a legal, non-conforming structure. It has had extensive renovations made, but is now out of compliance. The homeowner, Charles Neuhaus, would like to replace the upper part of the garage while maintaining the non-conforming footprint and foundation of the old garage.
A second public hearing is in regard to 3232 Lake Ave., a commercial property. The owner, Joseph Freed and Associates LLC, proposes adding two one-story buildings to the Edens Plaza Shopping Center. The 10,000-square-foot addition places the two retail buildings next to the north wall of the Carson's Store. The existing property is fully leased. There is 17 percent more parking than required by the zoning ordinance.
The public hearing for zoning variations on setbacks and impervious surface coverage variation -- to allow the homeowners to keep an existing shed at 161 Prairie Ave. -- will be continued at the Zoning Board of Appeals Feb. 23 meeting.
