The City of Elgin, Illinois Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee met on Dec. 1 to discuss ongoing projects.
After inviting comments from the public, the committee discussed the progress of the South Street extension, the Chicago Street rehabilitation project and the bikeway route. The committee also reviewed proposed 2016 activities and projects. After discussing other business and reviewing the 2016 meeting schedule, the meeting was adjourned. The next meeting will be held on Jan. 5.
The Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee meets at 6 p.m. on the first Tuesday of every month. The committee meets at The Centre of Elgin, 100 Symphony Way, West Conference Room.
The committee's focus is on finding ways to encourage bicycling and walking. This may include education, enforcement, evaluation and planning. Its recommendations are relayed to the city council for discussion, approval and implementation. The committee consists of seven members appointed by the city council, plus the city's community development director, city engineer, parks and recreation director and chief of police. The four city employees may each select another person to represent him or her on the committee.
