Mount Prospect board holds public hearing for 2015 tax levy

The board of the Village of Mount Prospect, Illinois met on Dec. 1 to hold a public hearing on the 2015 tax levy.

The regular board meeting of the Village was called to order shortly after 7 p.m. The minutes of the Nov. 17 meeting were deferred.

Under the Mayor's Report, the resolution extending best wishes for the holiday season was read by Mayor Arlene Juracek. A proclamation for National Drunk and Drugged Driving Prevention Month was read and presented to Police Chief Tim Janowick.

The items approved on the consent agenda were the bills from Nov. 12 to Nov. 29, authorization of a payment to the Mount Prospect Public Library and the authorization of an agreement with the Forest River Fire Protection District.

There were no old business items. Under new business, the public hearing for the proposed 2015 property tax levy was opened. A summary, including the recommendation of a 3.28 percent increase of the net Village tax levy, was provided by Finance Director David Erb. Of the total property tax, the Village receives approximately 12.2 percent and 61.7 percent goes to education. Three ordinances regarding the tax levy were presented for the first reading. A board discussion and public comments followed. The three ordinances will be held for a second reading at the Dec. 15 board meeting.

After closing the public hearing, the first reading was held for the Village's 2016 annual budget. Discussion and public comment followed. The public hearing and the second reading will be held on Dec. 15.

Approved resolutions included the public hearing scheduled for Jan. 5 for an annexation agreement with the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority and appropriation of funds from the Motor Fuel Tax funds for maintenance of streets and highways

 The Village Manager's Report provided information on the bid for traffic signal maintenance. The maintenance contract with H&H Electric Co. was approved. After the Manager's Report, the meeting was adjourned.
