The City of Park Ridge, Illinois City Council met on Nov. 16.
After calling the meeting to order and pledging allegiance, the council approved the Nov. 2 regular meeting minutes and the Nov. 9 Committee of the Whole minutes.
Two items were removed from the consent agenda: the final reading of the parking variance at 520 N. Northwest Hwy. and the first reading regarding two traffic amendments to the municipal code. The remaining consent agenda items were approved.
As part of the mayor's report, State Rep. Marty Moylan (D-Des Plaines) provided updates on House Bill 4305 regarding funds due to municipalities and other organizations, and Senate Bill 1447, which would protect individuals speaking at public hearings from lawsuits. A long discussion followed.
The Park Ridge Community Women was honored with a resolution and a proclamation was read for National American Indian Heritage Month. Linda Nagle and Rebecca Leslie were appointed to the Zoning Board of Appeals and Todd Baldi was appointed to the Liquor License Review Board. The Historic Preservation Commission presented its new historic landmark plaque.
The city attorney explained the process should the council wish to place a referendum on the March 2016 ballot, explaining a resolution must be adopted by Dec. 28.
Two zoning variances were approved: parking at 520 N. Northwest Hwy. and a fence at 831 S. Home Ave. All liquor license renewals were approved. The Historic Preservation Commission approved a new historic landmark at 122 N. Delphia. The two items regarding traffic amendments earlier removed from the consent agenda were discussed and approved.
The 2015 property tax levy was discussed. A public hearing is scheduled for Dec. 21 and the levy will be read before the city council on Dec. 7 and Dec. 21.
After discussing new business, including a thank you to those involved in Man-Up Movember no-shave men's health campaign, the sale of 9-11 bricks and fundraising for the holiday lights campaign, the meeting was adjourned.
