Superintendent of Public Works Brian Wiebe is retiring from the City of Park Ridge, Illinois.

The City of Park Ridge, represented by Acting Mayor Martin C. Maloney, will honor Wiebe with a resolution thanking him for his dedicated service and wishing him the best in his retirement at the upcoming city council meeting today.

Hired in April 1988 as the Grounds Maintenance Supervisor, Wiebe has dedicated more than 27 years to the Public Works Department of the City. He was promoted to Superintendent of Public Works in December 2007.

During Wiebe's tenure, he worked to improve the Public Works Department and Service Center. He became a Certified Arborist while working for the department. When the flooding rains struck in 2008 and 2010 and during the massive snowstorm of Feb. 1, 2011, he was in charge of operations while Public Works employees worked tirelessly to assist residents and clean up the City. His calm and steady performance earned his nickname "Sergeant Rock" as he guided Public Works staff through floods, snowstorms, windstorms and other emergencies that the city faced while he was Superintendent.

The resolution will be read at the City of Park Ridge council meeting today at 7 p.m.
