The City of Des Plaines City Council approved or rejected numerous items at Monday's meeting.

In the Consent Agenda, the council approved a citywide amendment to the City Code to allow the use of goats and sheep for educational purposes. Payments of $55,172.96 for  emergency water-main repairs at 1700 Higgins Road and $350,000 to complete the removal of illegal fill from 875 Seegers Road were approved. Temporary storage space for Oct. 20-Dec. 20 was approved for the Operation North Pole event.

All bids submitted for leak-detection and valve-assessment work were rejected. The council approved new ads seeking more bids.

The Committee of the Whole reports included Finance and Administration, with a warrant register of $2,894,265.74; Community Development, regarding a conditional-use permit and major variation for the assisted living facility at 959-997 Lee Street; and Public Safety, regarding changing the annual registration fee for alarm systems from $25 to $15. All items were approved under New Business.

Under Unfinished Business, the council heard second readings of the amended/approved map amendment and preliminary planned-unit development for a multi-family complex project at 800 East Northwest Highway, and the approved conditional-use permit and major variation for motor-vehicle sales use at 1529 Rand Road.
