The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) will review the Village of Schaumburg Police Department next month, and residents, including department employees, are invited to comment on the review at a public information meeting on Nov. 2.
The meeting will be held at 5 p.m. on Nov. 2 in the Community Room at the Schaumburg Police Department, 1000 West Schaumburg Road. Phone comments can be submitted by calling 847-348-7035 between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Nov. 2. Each comment is limited to 10 minutes and must focus on the police department and CALEA standards. Questions and written comments also may be sent to the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), 13575 Heathcote Boulevard, Suite 320, Gainesville, VA 20155, or call (703) 352-4225.
The CALEA review will examine the policies, procedures, management, field operations and support services of the police department as part of a voluntary process to gain CALEA re-accreditation, which would be the eighth for the department. The team consists of two out-of-state officers, Chief Philip Potter of the Alcoa, Tennessee, Police Department, and Assistant Chief of Police Eric Kerns from the Burlington, North Carolina, Police Department.
Interested parties can view a copy of the standards at the Schaumburg Police Department by contacting Marie Alexander at 847-348-7050 and setting up an appointment.
