The Illinois Manufacturers’ Association announced on Mar. 12 that voting is now open for the annual Makers Madness contest, which seeks to determine The Coolest Thing Made in Illinois. The public can choose from over 100 products made within the state, with voting available at makersmadnessil.com through March 22.
The contest highlights the importance of manufacturing in Illinois, which is the largest contributor to the state’s gross domestic product and supports nearly a third of all jobs. Manufacturing adds more than $580 billion to Illinois’ economy each year, according to a community announcement.
This year’s nominees include products from various sectors such as farming, construction, aeronautics, energy storage equipment, pantry staples, beverages, sweet treats, and vehicles. The competition aims to showcase the diversity and innovation present in Illinois manufacturing.
Residents are encouraged to participate by voting for their favorite products. The top 16 products will advance after this round of voting. The event will conclude with an awards ceremony on April 15 at the Illinois Governor’s Mansion in Springfield where the winner will be announced.
Stephens, a Republican, was elected to the Illinois State House in 2019 to represent the state’s 20th House District, replacing previous state representative Michael P. McAuliffe.
