Belle C. Green died in Palatine on March 10, 1926

Isabel Colton Greene, known as Belle C. Green, was born on March 17, 1842, in Pittsfield, Vermont. She began her literary career in 1881, contributing humorous sketches to Godey’s Lady’s Book. Her notable works include “A New England Idyl” and “Adventures of an Old Maid,” which sold over 75,000 copies. Greene also wrote for The Youth’s Companion and Harper’s Weekly. In 1868, she married Martin Van Buren Greene and had one son, Edward Martin Greene. Since 1910, she spent summers with her sister in Palatine, Illinois. Belle C. Green died in Palatine on March 10, 1926, and is buried at Hillside Cemetery.
