EVANSTON TOWNSHIP HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT 202: ETHS announces 2019 Senior Scholarships Night winners

Evanston Township High School District 202 issued the following announcement on May 17.

Evanston Township High School (ETHS) held its annual Senior Scholarships Night on May 15, acknowledging students in the Class of 2019 who are scholarship recipients through the ETHS Scholarship program. Darius Johnson and Liana Wallace, who were nominated by their fellow ETHS seniors, are the 2019 recipients of the Oliver Baty Cunningham Memorial Prize and the North End Mothers’ Club Award.

Each year, senior students are encouraged to apply for ETHS Scholarships for which they may qualify. Two of the scholarships – North End Mothers’ Club Award and the Oliver Baty Cunningham Memorial Prize – are by nomination only.

North End Mothers’ Club Award

This award is presented annually to the senior who identifies as female or gender nonconforming, and who ranks first among their classmates in all-around qualities, including intellectual ability, steadfastness of character, capacity for leadership, and distinguished service to school and community. The student must have maintained a 3.5 GPA.

ETHS senior Liana Wallace has been a participant and enthusiastic leader in various extracurricular activities, including the Students Organized Against Racism (SOAR) executive board, YAMO, and The Evanstonian student newspaper. She is also a 2019 Coca-Cola Scholar.

Wallace is known for her passion surrounding local and global social movements, in addition to her involvement with several community organizations.

Oliver Baty Cunningham Memorial Prize

This scholarship is awarded annually to the senior who identifies as male or gender nonconforming, and who ranks first among the members of their class in all-around qualities, including intellectual ability, capacity for leadership, sense of responsibility, and distinguished service to school and community.

ETHS senior Darius Johnson is a dedicated learner, charismatic leader, and an athlete who shares his time and talent with AVID, Emerge, DECA, and the Investment Club. He is also the Lead Scholar for the Boulé Scholar Program.

Johnson is committed to academic rigor and hard work both inside and outside the classroom. He is also known to be an innovative entrepreneur and an excellent public speaker.

In total, 63 ETHS seniors were honored throughout the night with scholarships awarded by the ETHS College & Career Services Department.
