The price of local government in 2016: Niles Township

The Niles Township budget was $3.15 million for its 2016 fiscal year.

That's an increase of 11.2 percent from 2015, when the township spent $2.84 million.

Niles Township has a population of 102,000.

Since 2001, the Niles Township budget has fallen by 14.3 percent, from $3.68 million. The township population has grown 5.8 percent over the same period, from 96,412.

Salaries accounted for 17.3 percent of township spending in 2016. Niles Township property taxpayers paid $544,390 for seven full-time employees and three part-time employees.
