Rolling Meadows recorded a median commercial property tax rate of 4.9% in fiscal year 2025, ranking 39th among Cook County municipalities, according to BlockShopper.com.

The countywide median was 2.9% for fiscal year 2025, with Rolling Meadows exceeding that average by 2 percentage points.

Out of 92 cities in Cook County, rates ranged from 1.1% in Harwood Heights up to 15.6% in Chicago Heights.

During fiscal year 2024, Rolling Meadows’ median commercial property tax rate stood at 0.2%, ranking 89th in the county at that time.

According to an analysis from the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy, commercial property tax rates averaged 1.76% across 53 major U.S. cities in 2024. These rates cover a broad range, with some cities under 1% and others reaching up to 4%.

Classification systems in several states can create higher effective property tax rates for commercial, industrial and apartment properties when compared to residential properties. In certain places, businesses encounter rates several times greater than those homeowners pay. For instance, Charleston assesses businesses at a rate almost six times higher than residential properties.
