Franklin was named the champion of the 2026 Battle of the Books, announced on March 26 after five weeks of competition at the Park Ridge Public Library. The Franklin Falcons secured first place with a total of 564 points.

The annual event brings together local schools and students in grades four and five to compete in reading-based challenges. This year’s contest saw Washington finish in second place with 534 points, just one point ahead of Field, which scored 533 points.

The Battle of the Books has been a tradition for over forty years, fostering a partnership between the library and area schools. Organizers said this year’s participants demonstrated strong dedication and enthusiasm for reading throughout the competition.

Final standings included Franklin (564), Washington (534), Field (533), Carpenter (498), MSW (498), St. Paul (459), and Roosevelt (419).

The long-running program continues to encourage young readers to engage deeply with literature while promoting teamwork among local students.
