At the December 18 meeting, the Park Ridge-Niles School District 64 Board recognized two members of Franklin Elementary School as D64 Shining Stars. Head Custodian John Branch and fifth-grade student Dinah Cavello were honored for their contributions to the school community.
Franklin Principal Dr. Kristin Williams praised John Branch for his commitment and service to the school. “I have never, ever known someone who goes above and beyond more than him,” Dr. Williams said. She highlighted how staff appreciate his attention to detail and students look forward to working with him as a reward for good behavior. Dr. Williams added, “I’m so grateful I’ve had the last six years to work with him, and I know he’s going to continue to serve our community in a wonderful way.”
Dinah Cavello was also recognized for her leadership among peers. “Dinah has the ability to connect with other students, that make them feel very special,” Dr. Williams explained. She noted that Dinah welcomes new students and helps them integrate into the school community. “She has the kindest heart, and she is always available to help others. I’m so very proud of her, and I know that she’s going to continue to do wonderful things.”
The D64 Shining Stars program highlights individuals who embody the district’s mission by fostering engagement, discovery, growth, interdependence, appreciation of differences, and care for others.
