At a recent Board of Education meeting, two members of Field Elementary School were recognized for their contributions to the school community. Student Charlie Meachem and Head Custodian John Imber received praise from staff for their positive impact.
Field Assistant Principal Christa Donnelly spoke about Charlie Meachem’s development during his time at the school. “It has truly been a gift to watch Charlie grow up through his years at Field. At every age and stage, he has been an absolute standout student,” said Donnelly.
Donnelly also mentioned that Charlie’s kindness has become more apparent over time, noting that he began by greeting others with a smile in kindergarten and later added genuine compliments as he got older. According to Donnelly, peers and teachers see him as “someone who can always be counted on to do the right thing, to stand up for others, to follow directions and to be a friend and role model.”
Charlie’s involvement includes serving as a school safety patrol member, where he helps younger students each day. Donnelly commented on his readiness for new challenges: “Emerson will be lucky to have Charlie as a new Emerson Eagle next year.”
The Board also honored Head Custodian John Imber for his long service at Field Elementary School. Principal Dr. Courtney Goodman highlighted Imber’s four decades of work with District 64. “They say that some people are the heart of a building, but after over 40 years… it’s safe to say that John Imber is the heart, the soul, and the very foundation of Field Elementary School,” Goodman said.
Imber is known among staff as someone who can fix any problem in the building and is described as hardworking. He also mentors other custodians by sharing knowledge so they can manage their own buildings effectively. Dr. Goodman referred to him as the “patriarch of Field School” and emphasized his supportive nature: “He’s a man of his word, a dedicated friend to his co-workers, and a wise counselor if you need advice on life or work or just being a good human,” she said.
Both individuals were congratulated for their roles in supporting the values of Field Elementary School and District 64.
